What Is The Blood Type Diet? Here's What You Need to Know.

The Blood Type Diet is one of the latest fad diets. The spin with this diet is that by eating a diet that is suitable for your blood type, you’ll be able to accelerate your weight loss and see faster results.

Advocated by Dr. Peter DÁdamo, author of Eat Right for Your Type, the theory behind the blood type diet is that the foods you eat cause chemical reactions in your blood. This indirectly causes health problems and promotes weight gain.

In order to rectify these problems, you are supposed to eat foods that are suitable for your blood type. Some examples would be:

Type A: Vegetarian

Type O: High-Protein Meat Eater

Type B: Balanced Omnivore

Type AB: Mixed diet

At first glance, it may seem like the diet is interesting and makes sense. However, the truth of the matter is that weight loss is very simple in concept. You just need to burn more calories than you consume.

In other words, you just need to exercise more and eat less. Your body will automatically tap into its fat stores for fuel and burn off excess fat over time. While the blood type diet may sound good on paper, to the Average Joe trying to lose his excess weight, it just seems unnecessarily complicated… and it is.

The simpler it is to follow a diet, the higher the sustainability. The blood type diet still does not have conclusive proof that it improves health or speeds up weight loss. It’s mostly hype at the moment. So, there really is no need to subject yourself to a specific diet because of your blood type.

The blood type diet even recommends exercises based on blood types. For example, those who are Type O are expected to do vigorous exercises while Type A would be more suited for less tiring exercises. None of these ideas really makes sense because if you stepped into an army barracks, you’ll discover soldiers of all different blood types engaging in the same tiring exercise regimen and coping with it.

There is also the fact that different people have different preferences. Someone with type A blood may love eating steaks but since the blood type diet doesn’t recommend steaks for type A folks, it’s going to be tough to sacrifice eating what they love.

This sacrifice may not even be worth the effort because the Blood Type diet doesn’t have any conclusive scientific proof to back it up. This is a difficult diet to follow and it’s really not necessary.

If you want to lose weight, there are many better diets out there that are based on solid science. The best thing that you can do is to cut your calories, eat sensibly and exercise more. That’s all that’s required. You will shed the excess pounds. It will take you time but that’s just the way it is.

People often try to overcomplicate things and this often leads to paralysis by analysis. Keep things simple. Eat less, eat right and move more. In time to come, you will reach your ideal weight even if you do not know what your blood type is.
